DANVILLE, Va. – The Averett University women's soccer team dropped a conference match to Maryville College 5-0 in its last home game of the season at Daly Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars' defense had difficulty preventing Maryville (12-3-1, 9-1-1 USA South) from getting past the backline. The Scots netted three shots in the first 18 minutes of play to gain an early lead over the Cougars, and Maryville's Jordyn Lee scored another goal in the 44th minute to send her squad into halftime with a four-point advantage.
Averett (2-11-2, 2-8-1 USA South) battled in the second frame but couldn't close the gap, and at the 64:40 mark, Miranda headed the ball in on a feed from Allyson Hale to extend the lead to five. With 15 shots on goal for Maryville, Averett goalkeeper
Bailee Brown finished with 10 saves.
Averett travels to Raleigh, North Carolina, to face William Peace University on Wednesday, Oct. 28 for its last game of the regular season.
