LEXINGTON, Va. — The Averett University volleyball team defeated Lynchburg College and fell short to No. 7 Wittenberg University on the final day of the Washington and Lee University Invitational to finish the weekend 2-2.

In its first match of the day against Lynchburg, Averett (7-3) took a 3-1 victory, overpowering the Hornets 25-15, 21-25, 25-19 and 25-18. Averett lost to Wittenberg 3-1 in its last match of the tournament. The Cougars were down 2-0 going into the third set and fought back to send the game into a fourth set, but Wittenberg pulled away to take the match.

Sophomore outside hitter Hannah Shields was selected to the All-Tournament Team.
