STAUNTON, Va. – The Averett University women's basketball team beat Mary Baldwin College in a 99-43 blow-out victory on Wednesday night at the Physical Activities Center.

The game was tight in the first quarter, but Averett began to move ahead midway through the second quarter with an 11-0. Averett (7-5, 2-2 USA South) gained a 34-15 lead following a jumper from junior guard
Ariana Covington and kept up their momentum. The Cougars held the Fighting Squirrels (0-13, 0-5 USA South) to just four points in the second period as Averett built a 55-19 advantage going into halftime and never looked back.

Shooting guard
Samm Chandler played a significant role for Averett's offense with 19 points in the first half. She finished the night with 21 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore guard
Frida Lundquist followed with 18 points and 12 rebounds for her first career double-double as both were also career-highs. Covington put up 14 points while senior guard
Jessica Myers added 12. Senior forward
Oneka Jones and freshman guard
Shannon Longworth registered 10 points apiece, a season-high for Longworth.

Averett hits the road again on Saturday, Jan. 16, to take on Piedmont College in conference action at 2 p.m.
