DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University women's soccer team used a pair of goals from senior
Annalies Jobsis and sophomore
Skye Gunn to cruise to a 5-0 victory over William Peace University on Sunday afternoon at Daly Field.
The victory gave Averett (8-6, 6-4 USA South) a sweep of its Homecoming series as the Cougars entered the game against the Pacers riding high after defeating Greensboro College 2-1 on Saturday.
Jobsis only needed five minutes to notch her 12th goal of the season when she took a pass from Gunn on a corner kick and volleyed her shot into the bottom right corner of the goal to put the Cougars in front 1-0. Four minutes later, Jobsis added her second score of the contest on a shot from the middle that the Pacers' goalkeeper had trouble containing.
Gunn fired in her fourth goal of the season in the 14th minute when she headed in a pass from Jobsis to give Averett a three-goal cushion heading into the break. She went on to record her second goal of the afternoon on a penalty kick at the 59:16 mark to seal the deal for the Cougars.
Senior
Riley Smith also added a goal in the 56th minute on a shot from the middle that put the Cougars up 4-0 early in the second half.
William Peace (3-14-1, 2-10 USA South) got a solid performance between the sticks from goalkeeper Shannon Maddex who recorded 10 saves in the loss.
Averett returns to action on Oct. 19 when it heads to Raleigh, North Carolina, to take on Meredith College at 6 p.m. in the Cougars' final road contest of the season. Averett defeated Meredith 3-2 earlier in the season.
