FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Averett University volleyball stayed perfect in USA South Conference play with a 3-0 win at Methodist University on Tuesday night. The Cougars won easily 25-17, 25-16, 25-8.
Averett (22-9, 13-0 USA South) rode the swings of juniors
Sarah Smoot and
Hannah Shields, who each finished with 15 kills. Sophomore
Emily Stanley led the Cougars with 11 digs, and sophomore
Keenan Marks finished with 32 assists and nine digs. Shields also totaled eight digs and five service aces, while freshman
Brianna Williams added nine digs and six kills.
With her 15 kills, Smoot surpassed 1,000 career kills, joining a long list of Cougars who have accomplished that feat.
The match was a makeup contest after the original play date was postponed due to Hurricane Matthew earlier this month.
Averett hosts Greensboro College on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. for the Cougars' Dig Pink match.
