Greensboro snaps men's soccer four-game win streak

DANVILLE, Va. — Greensboro College used a pair of second-half goals to hand the Averett men's soccer team a 4-0 loss in USA South Conference action Sunday at Daly Field.

Despite the loss, Averett (6-9, 5-3 USA South) has still won three out of its last four conference games, putting the Cougars in second place in the USA South with games against Maryville College and William Peace University on the horizon.

Greensboro (7-5, 4-2 USA South) held a 2-0 lead when Jared Heller hammered in a deflection to make it a three-goal contest in the 76th minute. Mike Tzavlas sealed the win for the Pride when he took a pass from Warren Washington and converted his attempt to make it 4-0 at the 81:53 mark.

After both teams battled in the midfield throughout the first half, Obi Collins got Greensboro on the board when he dribbled through Averett's defense and buried his shot on the far post to put the Pride up by one in the 35th minute. Collins added an assist to his game resume when he found Andrew Moebius with a cross into the box and Moebius made good on his shot, putting the Pride up 2-0 heading into the break.

Second-year freshman Austin Bramhall recorded five saves on the afternoon for the Cougars.

Averett will make the trek down to Maryville, Tennessee, to take on Maryville on Oct. 14 at 4 p.m.
