DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University women's tennis defeated Emory & Henry College 5-4 Sunday afternoon at the Averett Tennis Courts in the team's final match of the fall season.

Averett (1-1) emerged from doubles play ahead 2-1 in the match. Junior Hannah Mattson and sophomroe Heidi Sarkkinen won at No. 1 doubles 8-1 over Savanna Summers and Lauren Riners.

Mattson also was victorious at No. 1 singles, beating Riner 6-2, 6-2. At No. 2 singles, freshman Rachel Watlington edged Emory & Henry's Ana-Belen Gomez 6-2, 2-6, 10-6.

Averett also got wins over Emory & Henry (1-2) at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles by default.
