LYNCHBURG, Va. — Lynchburg College shot 50 percent from the field to beat the Averett University women's basketball team 96-55 on Sunday afternoon at Turner Gymnasium.
Lynchburg (7-2) attacked the gaps in Averett's defense, repeatedly taking open shots in the lane. Using their height to their advantage, the Hornets scored 54 points inside the paint. As the Hornets worked the middle, Averett (4-3) struggled to find its offensive rhythm, and Lynchburg built on its 13-point lead after the break.
The Hornets eventually pulled away in the third quarter after scoring 11 points in five consecutive possessions to extend its lead to 30.
Junior guard
Frida Lundquist led the Cougars with 16 points and eight rebounds as sophomore guard
Alixis Roccia finished with 10 points.
Lynchburg's Charmaine Hairston led all scorers with 34 points.
Averett returns to action on Tuesday, Dec. 13, to take on Shenandoah University in non-conference in Winchester, Virginia, for a 5 p.m. tip-off.
