Averett jumped ahead 3-0 after securing all the matches in doubles play. At the No. 1 spot, freshman
Heidi Sarkkinen and sophomore
Hannah Mattson defeated Gina Rutledge and AJ Lukanuski 8-3 as senior
Jessie Gomes and freshman
Olivia Scott also claimed an 8-3 victory over Samantha Yew and Anna Colvin at No 2. Later on at No. 3, junior
Angelica Orlikowski and sophomore
Kaitlyn Meadows outlasted Madi Mills and Megan Johnston 8-4.

In singles play, Averett came out on top with four wins. Sarkkinen defeated Rutledge 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 while Mattson battled for a comeback win against Lukanuski. Mattson had fallen 3-6 in the first set, but fought back with a 6-4, 10-6 performance. Scott and sophomore
Jordyn Minton also clinched solo victories over Yew and Katie Craig, respectively. Scott won 6-1, 6-3 as Minton won 6-3, 6-2.

The Cougars hit the courts again Sunday, March 6, as they travel to Tennessee to take on Maryville College in their conference opener at 1 p.m.
