• 2016 Averett Softball Media Guide
The fourth-seeded Averett University softball team has sealed its spot in Sunday's USA South Conference championship at 1 p.m. in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. The Cougars will face the winner of Sunday morning's matchup between No. 2 seed Maryville College and No 5 seed Ferrum College at the Rocky Mount Sports Complex.

Averett (25-15) remains as the last unbeaten team in the double-elimination tournament. If the Cougars win the 1 p.m. championship game, they would win the tournament and earn the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Regional. If the Cougars lose the 1 p.m. game, there would be a second game at 3 p.m. to decide the championship.
Averett opened the tournament with a 3-2 win over Ferrum on Friday, then knocked off top seed Piedmont College 5-4 in eight innings later that day. The Cougars advanced to the championship with a 6-0 win over Maryville on Saturday.
The Cougars are seeking their second tournament title in program history after last winning it in 2004. Last seaosn, Averett won the regular season title and earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Regional.
