Averett (3-10, 1-7 USA South) cruised past Ferrum (0-13, 0-9 USA South) in doubles play. The tandem of freshman
Heidi Sarkkinen and sophomore
Hannah Mattson picked up an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles. Senior
Jessie Gomes and freshman
Olivia Scott also won 8-1 at the No. 2 spot, and junior
Angelica Orlikowski and sophomore
Kaitlyn Meadows won 8-6 at No. 3 doubles.

The Cougars also took all six matches of singles play. Sarkkinen, who is ranked No. 24 in the South Atlantic Region and has earned four consecutive USA South Conference Rookie of the Week honors, remained undefeated in singles. She improved to 12-0 this season with her No. 1 singles win over Ferrum's Alexandria Dixon 6-0, 6-0.

The Cougars host Mary Baldwin College at 12 p.m. Sunday, followed by Meredith College at 4 p.m. Averett will honor its seniors — Gomes and Meadows (who is graduating early) — prior to the match with Mary Baldwin.
