Sarkkinen remains perfect at No. 1 singles as women's tennis tops William Peace

RALEIGH, N.C. — Averett University women's tennis finished the season with an 8-1 conference victory over William Peace University Saturday. In the process, freshman Heidi Sarkkinen completed the regular season a perfect 16-0 at No. 1 singles play.

Sarkkinen teamed up with sophomore Hannah Mattson for an 8-1 No. 1 doubles victory to help Averett (6-11, 4-8 USA South) sweep doubles play. Senior Jessie Gomes and freshman Olivia Scott picked up an 8-4 doubles win, and sophomores Kaitlyn Meadows and Jordyn Minton also won in doubles 8-1.

Sarkkinen, ranked No. 24 in the region, completed her perfect singles run by topping Alexandra Dixon 6-1, 6-2. Mattson and Scott also won in straight sets, while Meadows and Minton each won as well.
