FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Methodist University picked up three first-half goals on its way to handing the Averett University men's soccer team a 4-0 loss on Friday.
Methodist (3-4-1, 1-0 USA South) picked up its first goal of the game in the 21st minute when Tyler Ursuy took a cross in the box from Trevor Hendricks and buried his shot into the bottom left corner to give the Monarchs an early 1-0 lead.
The Monarchs only needed seven minutes to double down on their lead when Seth Harrison hammered home a shot on a pass from Lawson Lamm to make it a two-goal contest. Zach Landry provided Methodist's final tally of the half to give the Monarchs a 3-0 advantage heading into the break.
Methodist's fourth score came at the 56-minute mark when Seth Harrison found Fredrik Aalberg at the top of the 18-yard line and Aalberg drilled his shot into the net to make it a four-goal affair.
Averett (2-7, 2-1 USA South) had an early opportunity to pull in front when Methodist fouled the Cougars in the box, leading to a penalty kick. However, the Monarchs' Jonathan Moore guessed junior
Tobias Andreasson's spot and pushed the attempt left to keep it a scoreless ballgame.
Second-year freshman goalkeeper
Austin Bramhall recorded seven saves on the afternoon for the Cougars.
Averett travels to Rocky Mount, North Carolina, to take on N.C. Wesleyan College on Saturday at 2 p.m.
