ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — N.C. Wesleyan College picked up a 5-1 victory against the Averett men's soccer team on Saturday in USA South Conference action.
N.C. Wesleyan (5-3, 2-0 USA South) got on the board in the seventh minute when Jordan Davis rocketed his shot from 20-yards out in the back of the net to give the Battling Bishops the early lead. Baboucarr Njie's goal nearly a minute later gave the Battling Bishops a two-goal lead under 10 minutes into the game.
Averett (3-7, 2-2 USA South) cut its deficit in half seven minutes later when sophomore
David Cuperman picked up his second goal of the season to make it 2-1.
However, Julius Oskarsson scored 18-seconds later to put N.C. Wesleyan back in front by two at the 15:20 mark. Kobi Boompong rounded out the scoring for the Battling Bishops in the first period in the 34th minute to give N.C. Wesleyan a three-goal cushion heading into the break.
Njie added his second score of the contest on an assist from Sheriff Secka at the 65:38 mark to round out the scoring.
Second-year freshman goalkeeper
Austin Bramhall recorded seven saves in goal for the Cougars.
Averett receives a four-day rest before hosting Bridgewater College on Sept. 28 at 6 p.m. on Daly Field.
