DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University men's soccer team got on the board early and never looked back en route to a 2-0 win over Bridgewater College on Wednesday night at Daly Field in a game cut short by thunderstorms in the area.
Averett (3-8) blazed out to an early advantage when junior
Tobias Andreasson delivered a perfect wing pass to freshman
Sebastian Kjernholm. Kjernholm took control of the ball and hammered home his shot on the far post from 28-yards out to put the Cougars ahead just 3:11 into the game.
The Cougars needed just over four minutes to double down on their lead when sophomore
Felix Squire headed in a shot on a corner kick from junior
Simon Holmstrom to give Averett a 2-0 lead hardly seven minutes into the game.
Bridgewater (4-3-2) created several opportunities early in the second half, but the Cougars' defense prevented the Eagles' attackers from getting any good looks on goal.
Second-year freshman
Austin Bramhall had an outstanding night in goal, picking up six saves to record his second blank sheet of the year. Bramhall played an aggressive game all night, coming out to challenge Bridgewater attackers, while cutting off their scoring angles.
Averett looks to remain in the win column when it resumes USA South Conference play on Oct. 1 when it hosts LaGrange College at 2 p.m. on Daly Field.
