DANVILLE, Va. – N.C. Wesleyan College pulled out a 1-0 conference win over the Averett University women's soccer team on Sunday afternoon at Frank R. Campbell Stadium.
Â
After both squads finished the first half scoreless, the Battling Bishops (5-2-1, 4-1 USA South) tallied its first and only goal of the match. Victoria Burkhart hit the upper left corner on a free kick from about 20 yards out on the right side to put N.C. Wesleyan on the scoreboard.
Â
Averett (5-3, 3-2 USA South) fought aggressively to move the ball up the field for good opportunities, but the Cougars fell short to strike the ball between the posts as both teams struggled to shoot on target. Â
Â
Averett has just shy of a week to prepare for another weekend of consecutive conference matchups. The Cougars travel to Mary Baldwin University on Saturday, Oct. 1 for a 2 p.m. kick-off, and they'll head to Ferrum College the following day to play at 7 p.m.
