SALEM, Va. — The Averett University volleyball team rolled past non-conference foe Roanoke College, 3-0, on Thursday night to extend the Cougars' winning streak to 15 games.
Averett (22-2) won 25-17, 25-22 and 25-20 to sweep Roanoke (9-11), who it also beat 3-0 during the first weekend of the season.
The Cougars received dominant offensive performances from senior
Sarah Smoot and sophomore
Brianna Williams. Smoot led Averett with 13 kills while hitting .458 for the match, while Williams finished with 11 kills and a .647 hitting percentage. As a team, the Cougars hit .258 over three sets.
Junior
Keenan Marks totaled 27 assists, with freshman
McKenzie Miller adding 16 assists. Senior
Hannah Shields had a team-best 22 digs to go with nine kills and four service aces. Junior
Emily Stanley tallied 10 digs and Smoot finished with nine.
Averett returns to action on Saturday with a USA South Conference tri-match at William Peace University. The Cougars face host William Peace at noon and Methodist University at 2 p.m.
