DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University women's soccer team lost a 2-0 heart breaker against Meredith College on Sunday afternoon at Frank R. Campbell Stadium.

Averett (3-7-2, 1-4 USA South) started off strong in the first half despite being down a player due to a straight red card at the 13:05 mark. Defense was a key factor for both teams as they ended the half scoreless.

The Cougars' defense held off a strong offensive Meredith (9-4, 4-1 USA South) until the 81st minute when a cross was deflected in off of an Averett defender. The Avenging Angels didn't let up as Hannah Elvington scored at the 82:52 mark to give them the win as she netted a shot into the top corner from a loose ball in the box.
