WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Averett University women's soccer team lost to Salem College 4-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Salem College Field.

Salem (13-3, 6-1 USA South) stared off with a quit start, scoring its first goal in the first minute by Brooke Bukas. Averett (3-8-2, 1-5 USA South) held off the Spirits for the remainder of the half with their tuff defense.

The Spirits scored two goals at the 49:03 mark and the 49:44 minute mark by Jordan Lanier to extend their lead to 3-0. Salem's Ellie Montes notched a goal in the 84th minute to complete play 4-0.

The Cougars return to action on Saturday, Oct. 21, to host Greensboro College during Averett's homecoming at 1 p.m.
