DANVILLE, Va.— The Averett University men's soccer team fell to North Carolina Wesleyan College on Wednesday night, 3-0.

The Cougars (3-6-2, 2-3-1 USA South) came out flying on the attack in the first ten minutes of the match, locking the Battling Bishops in their own end early on. N.C. Wesleyan (6-5, 5-1 USA South) survived this wave of attack and eventually found their own offensive game. They took the lead on the scoreboard in the 21^st minute of play when Joseph Brooks found an unmarked Baboucarr Nije inside the 18-yard box. Nije settled the ball before tucking his left-footed shot inside the far post.

The Bishops stayed on the attack and were rewarded four minutes later. Ryan Halliday beat a Cougar defender on the near end line which forced freshman goalkeeper Marius Olavesen to come out of his net. At this point, Halliday slid a pass to Jordan Davis who one-timed his shot into the empty net. Each side tightened up defensively for the duration of the half and N.C. Wesleyan led at the break in action, 2-0.

The Bishops extended their lead again in the 50^th minute of play when they received a throw in on the far side of the field. The service came into the box and a loose ball fell to Halliday who blasted his shot into the back of the net for the 3-0 lead.

Averett couldn't find holes in the N.C. Wesleyan back line and were defeated by the Bishops, 3-0.

The Cougars return to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 7, when they travel to Montgomery, Alabama to take on Huntingdon College. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
