DANVILLE, Va. – The Averett University women's basketball team defeated Ferrum College 51-36 in conference action on Sunday afternoon at the Grant Center on Senior Day.
With the win over Ferrum, Averett matched its single-season record of 17 overall wins with a chance to eclipse the 2009-2010 team's total with a win in this week's conference tournament.
Averett (17-8, 10-4 USA South) led by only four (23-19) at halftime and maintained their lead for the remainder of the game. The Cougars limited Ferrum (17-8, 12-2 USA South) to just three points in the third quarter that allowed them to pull away.
Junior guard
Frida Lundquist paced Averett with 12 points and dished out five assists while senior center
Jonna Koski followed up with eight points, 10 rebounds and two blocks.
Koski was one of the three seniors honored during Senior Day along with
DaQuila Washington and
Ariana Covington. Washington finished with seven points and two steals.
Averett is now tied for second place with Greensboro College in the East division of the USA South. Seeding for the conference tournament will be announced later in the week.
