GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College swept the Averett University softball team 2-0 in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at Haworth Field. The Cougars fell 8-4 in the first game and 5-4 in the second.

In Game 1, Guilford (7-1) scored five runs in the second inning to secure a four-run lead over the Cougars up through the fourth frame. Â Averett (3-3) tacked on three more runs in the fifth and six innings to only trail Guilford by one. Freshman

Samantha Hall singled to and Aherron doubled to right center, but the Quakers matched Averett's efforts in the bottom of the sixth with a single up the middle and a double to center field.

Jessica Long finished 3-for-4 while Hall ended the game 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

In Game 2, the Cougars fought back after falling behind. The Quakers led 5-0 by the end of the fifth inning, but after scoring a run in the top of the sixth and another in the seventh, Long hit a 2 RBI homer to left field with just one out. Unfortunately for Averett, two batters flied out as Guilford sealed the win.

Casey Cook went-2-for-4 with one RBI. Cook and sophomore

Averett returns to action tomorrow for its first home doubleheader of the season. The Cougars host Roanoke College at Cougar Field at 1 p.m.
