LaGrange, Ga. — LaGrange College defeated the Averett University baseball team in both games of a conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Cleaveland Field. The Panthers took the first game 12-2 and defeated the Cougars 17-2 in seven innings to complete the evening.
LaGrange (21-2, 10-1 USA South) scored first due to Cain Saui's sacrifice fly to put the Hawks on the board. Averett's (5-17, 1-7 USA South) defense held the Hawks until the bottom of the third inning where LaGrange added on to their score 2-0.
The Cougars cut the score in half when junior
Bradley Tickle scored on a Hawk error. LaGrange came back and notched another run to their score 3-1. Averett answered back when senior
Hunter Ashworth scored freshman
Adam George to make the score 3-2. The Hawks then pulled away scoring six runs in the fifth inning and three runs in the seventh inning to complete the game.

Chase McKinney each followed suit with one hit.
In game 2, the Cougars scored first to give them a 1-0 advantage when Tickle scored on sophomore
Tyler Fetherolf's groundout. LaGrange returned the favor scoring seven runs in the second inning after Blane Swift tripled scoring two of the runs 7-1. Over the coarse of the remainder of the game LaGrange scored a total of 10 runs. In the seventh inning freshman
Matt Wall hit a double down the right field line-scoring freshman

Smithers led the Cougars in game 2 with two hits. Tickle, Tuggle, and Wall each had one hit.
Averett and LaGrange will finish their three-game series on Monday at 1 p.m.
