LAGRANGE, Ga. — The Averett University baseball team lost to LaGrange College 5-2 on Monday in its series finale at Cleaveland Field.
Averett (5-18, 1-8 USA South) scored first when junior
Dallas Smithers singled to left field, bringing in senior
Hunter Ashworth in the first inning to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead. LaGrange (22-2, 11-1 USA South) answered back when Billy Peatro singled to center field scoring a run to make the score 1-1.
The Panthers extended their lead with four more runs to give them the win behind Blane Swift's 2 RBI homerun. The Cougars did not give up scoring a run on freshman
Chip Granderson's sacrifice fly in the eighth inning, to complete the three-game series.

Corey Wall each led the Cougars to one hit each.
Averett returns to action on Tuesday when the Cougars host non-conference Tufts University for a 3 p.m. start.
