DANVILLE, Va. – The Averett University women's tennis team came up short in an 8-1 non-conference loss to Randolph-Macon College on Monday afternoon at the Averett Tennis Courts.
Randolph-Macon (7-1) gained an early lead over the Cougars with three wins in doubles, but sophomore
Heidi Sarkkinen came through for Averett (4-4) to avoid a shutout. Sarkkinen defeated Caitlin Delmas 6-1, 6-0 in No. 1 singles. Junior
Hannah Mattson battled in No. 2 singles but fell short to Gaby Tersigni 6-4, 6-2.
Averett returns to action on Friday for the first of five consecutive road matches. The Cougars travel to Buena Vista, Virginia, to take on Southern Virginia University at 3 p.m.
