BUENA VISTA, Va. — Southern Virginia University defeated the Averett University women's tennis team 6-3 on Friday afternoon in non-conference competition.
 
Junior Hannah Mattson and Heidi Sarkkinen claimed the Cougars' only wins of the day. They beat Lauren Morrison and Natalie Teets 8-2 in doubles and both clinched their singles matches. Sarkkinen walked away with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Morrison while Mattson defeated Kari Stollenwerk 6-4, 6-4.
 
Averett resumes conference play on Saturday when it faces Ferrum College on the road.
