DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University softball team swept Maryville College in conference action on Saturday afternoon at Cougar Field. The Cougars defeated the Scots 6-2 in the first game and 5-4 in the second.
Averett (17-15, 9-5 USA South) scored three runs in the first inning of Game 1 that would eventually help the Cougars gain the win later on. With a 4-2 lead, sophomore
Taylor Hodges and freshman
Kaitlyn Aherron notched a double apiece down the left field line to add two more runs.
Senior
Samantha Hall went 3-for-3 while Aherron went 2-for-4. Freshman
Taylor Bailey got the win from the pitching circle.
In Game 2, the Cougars scored four runs in the fourth frame to claim a 5-2 advantage over Maryville (17-13, 8-8 USA South). With

Samantha Hall and Aherron each hit a single through the left side to tack on runs. The Scots tried to answer and managed to get two more runs, but it wasn't enough.
Aherron clinched the pitching win as Hall,
Andrea Grant and
Breanna Murphy finished 2-for-3.
Averett returns to action tomorrow for a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Salem College at Cougar Field.
