Women's tennis takes a tumble against Meredith

DANVILLE, Va. – The Averett University women's tennis team lost 7-2 in a conference matchup to Meredith College on Thursday afternoon at the Averett Tennis Courts.

Averett (7-6,4-1 USA South) started off on the right track picking up one point  in doubles from the dynamic duo in sophomore Heidi Sarkkinen and junior Hannah Mattson. The pair defeated the Avenging Angels' Cailin Goff and Jacqueline Benton 8-6.

Sarkinnen also helped the Cougars out when she won at the No.1 spot, beating Goff 6-3, 6-4. However, Meredith (4-11, 4-2 USA South) took the remaining five matches to cap the evening off.

Averett returns to the courts Saturday at 12 p.m.to face Methodist University in a home conference matchup.
