FAYETEVILLE, N.C. — Averett University volleyball cruised past Methodist University 3-0 and finished the evening with a 3-2 victory against William Peace University on Saturday.
Averett (14-2, 3-0 USA South) opened the day with a sweep of conference foe Methodist (6-6, 0-2 USA South) winning by scores of 25-22, 25-23, 25-22. The Monarchs battled closely with the Cougars in all three sets and finished hitting with .240 as a team in today's match. Senior

Keenan Marks totaled 20 assists and 16 assists, respectively.
The Cougars ended the afternoon taking it to a five set conference win over William Peace (4-10, 1-1 USA South). Averett won 25-10, 24-26, 23-25, 26-24, 15-11. The Cougars came out hot in the first set, and then fell in the next two sets to the Pacers. In the end Averett made it happen by coming out on top in the last set forcing a fifth set to win the match. Shields led Averett's with 30 kills, followed by Smoot with 14 kills and Williams with 11. Shields had a team-high 37 digs and Stanley added 20. Marks led the setters with 37 assists while Miller had 27.
Averett will go on the road to Ferrum, Virginia, to face Ferrum College in conference play on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
