ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — The Averett University women's soccer team fell to N.C. Wesleyan College 5-0 in its conference opener on Saturday afternoon at Scalf Field.

The Bishops (1-6-1, 1-0 USA South) scored their first goal in the 33rd minute of play, after Hannah Tolson put the ball in the back of the net to start their momentum. Ella Burkhart added two more goals for N.C. Wesleyan at the 35:44 minute mark and by converting a penalty kick at the 42nd minute of play to give them a lead of 3-0 going into halftime.

Averett (2-4-2, 0-1 USA South) worked to hold off the Bishops throughout the game, N.C. Wesleyan scored two more goals in the remainder of the second half completing the match at 5-0. Â
