FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The Averett University men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Methodist University on the road Wednesday evening in USA South Conference play.
Methodist (6-4-1, 3-2-1 USA South) benefited from a goal early in the opening half when Lawson Lamm netted his first goal of the season in the 15th minute to give the Monarchs an early 1-0 advantage.
The Monarchs extended that lead to 2-0 in the 29th minute when Nick Bryant found Hugo Kamppainen for his second goal of the season.
Averett (2-10-1, 0-6-1 USA South) nearly cut into the Monarchs lead five minutes later when Freshman
David Molen's shot was turned away by Methodist goalie Scott Brecke.
Freshman Erick Blick would have an opportunity early in the second half to put the Cougars on the board, however Blick's attempt was turned away by Brecke.
Methodist would add a third score in the 65th to seal the match when Lamm crossed a ball to Daniel Magen that found the back of the Averett net.
The Monarchs finished the match with a slight 15-11 shot advantage and a 9-2 shot on goal discrepancy.
Junior
