BEREA, Ky. — The Averett University men's soccer team fell by a final of 2-0 to Berea College on the road Saturday afternoon in USA South Conference action.
Berea (3-11, 1-8 USA South) benefited late in the first half from an Averett miscue inside the box leading to a penalty kick opportunity. Issac Domenech took the attempt for the Mountaineers netting his first goal of the 2018 season.
Averett (2-11-1, 0-7-1 USA South) would battle throughout the second half to tie the match with the Cougars best opportunity coming when sophomore
Asher Francis fired a shot midway through the second quarter that was turned away by the Mountaineers.
The Mountaineers would add a goal in the 88th minute to seal the match at 2-0 when Joshua Szidik found the back of the Averett net.
Senior
Jake Searcy led the charge for the Cougars, finishing the afternoon with five shot attempts; three on goal while fellow senior
Sean Dunbar supplied two shots and a lone shot on frame.
Berea finished the afternoon with a slight 19-16 shot advantage and a 7-5 shot on goal discrepancy.
Junior
Austin Bramhall played all 90 minutes in net for the Cougars; facing seven shot attempts for the match and recording five saves.
Averett returns back to action Oct. 17 when they close out the road portion of the 2018 schedule with a 4 p.m. conference bout against N.C. Wesleyan.
