DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University men's soccer team dropped a hard fought 2-1 decision to Brevard College Saturday afternoon on Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium.
Brevard (3-8, 2-5 USAS) benefited in the 14th minute of play when Brock Tuttle scored the first of his two goals on the afternoon, slipping inside of the Cougars defense and blasting a shot from the middle of the 18-yard box to the far post.
Tuttle added the eventual game-winning score just less than 10 minutes later playing a ball from teammate Bry'Kendrick Moore from the right side of the 18-yard box, playing one touch and chipping shot over the outstretched arms of Averett's goalkeeper.
Averett (2-9-1, 0-5-1 USAS) pulled the game within one score six minutes later when freshman Lluc Pou was dragged down inside the Tornados box leading to a penalty kick opportunity for the Cougars.
Senior
Sean Dunbar made the most of that opportunity beating Brevard's goalie to the right for his third score of the season and second penalty kick strike in as many opportunities.
The Cougars finished the afternoon with a slight 15-14 shot advantage over the Tornados as both squads finished with an even six shots on goal.
Averett is slated to return to action on Sept. 10 as they take to the road for the first of three straight conference bouts beginning with Methodist University at 7 p.m. in Fayetteville, N.C.
