LYNCHBURG, Va. — The Averett University men's tennis team lost 6-3 to Southern Virginia University on Saturday in a neutral site matchup hosted by Randolph College.
Playing its first dual match of the 2018-19 season, Averett (0-1) fell behind 2-1 after doubles play. The Cougars' lone doubles point came with a victory at the No. 2 spot. Sophomores
Henry Blanco and
Thomas Woodcock, who recently won the ITA Regionals Flight B doubles championship, earned an 8-4 win Saturday over Southern Virginia's Paul Monson and Andrew Blonquist.
Averett also got singles wins by senior
Abdugani Ganiev and sophomore
Simon Levinsson. Ganiev beat Ben Spencer in No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-3. Levinsson topped Zachary Bowers at the No. 6 position, 6-3, 6-2.
Averett hosts Randolph College on Sunday.
