DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University football seniors
Dejon Brooks and
Bradley Jefferson were selected to the 2018 D3football.com All-South Region Team, the organization announced on Tuesday. Brooks was picked as a First Team linebacker, while Jefferson was tabbed the Third Team return specialist.
Brooks, a native of Clinton, Maryland, finished second in the conference with 91 tackles while earning 2018 USA South All-Conference First Team accolades. Averett's all-time sack leader had four sacks this season, with seven tackles for loss, one interception, four pass breakups, five pass deflections and seven quarterback hurries. The 2018 D3football Preseason All-America Third Team selection earned USA South First Team All-Conference honors for the second consecutive season. He was named the USA South Defensive Player of the Week once and selected to the D3football.com Team of the Week once.
Jefferson, a native of Tignall, Georgia, had 13 kick returns for 525 yards, including a 100-yard return for a touchdown against Hampden-Sydney College to help him earn 2018 USA South All-Conference First Team return specialist honors. He finished with an average kick return of 40.4 yards. He also returned two punts for a total of 31 yards. Jefferson also earned USA South Second Team defensive back honors after the cornerback recorded 52 tackles, 2 interceptions, 12 pass breakups and 14 pass deflections with one blocked kick. He was named the USA South Special Teams Player of the Week three times and D3football Team of the Week once.
Averett finished a program-best 8-2 this season with a 6-1 mark in the USA South.
