Baseball splits with Greensboro in conference doubleheader

DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University baseball split a conference doubleheader with Greensboro College on Saturday afternoon. Averett dropped the opener to the Pride 8-0 and completed the series with a 6-5 victory.

In the nightcap, the score was 3-3 entering into the seventh inning. Averett (2-9, 1-2 USA South) started a rally when freshman Tucker Majetic scored on a fielder's choice to put his team ahead. Greensboro (4-3, 2-1 USA South) scored first in the first inning on a single up the middle from Hunter Curtis. The Cougars would respond in the bottom of the inning with a RBI from Tuggle to score junior Kyle Vidano. Greensboro would take the lead once again, but Averett would tie and go on top on a single through the left side from senior Dallas Smithers.
