Men's lacrosse drops inaugural home match to Greensboro

Box Score DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University men's lacrosse team dropped their inaugural home match to Greensboro College, 18-2.

At the end of the first quarter, the Pride (1-3, 1-0 USA South) netted four goals while keeping the Cougars (0-3, 0-1 USA South) scoreless. Freshman Brenner Woodcock registered his second goal of the year early in the second quarter to put the cougars on the scoreboard. However, Greensboro would add six goals in the second quarter to head into halftime leading, 10-1.

Freshman Keshawn Downing recorded his third goal of the year at the 12:49 mark of the fourth quarter, but it would not be enough as Greensboro would go on to win, 18-2.

Freshman Joonas Mattila was credited with the assist on Downing's strike while freshman Jacob Shriver finished with a game-high 29 saves in net.

The contest was the first USA South Conference game for either team. Prior to the season, the conference did not sponsor men's lacrosse.

Averett travels to Misenheimer, North Carolina on Saturday, March 3, to take on Pfeiffer University. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
