FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Averett University women's tennis team came up short 8-1 in a conference match to Methodist University on Saturday afternoon.
Methodist (10-3, 1-0 USA South) gained an early lead over the Cougars with three wins in doubles. Junior Heidi Sarkkinen came through for Averett (4-2, 1-1 USA South) to avoid a shutout. Sarkkinen defeated Jenna Landis 6-1, 6-3 in No. 1 singles.
Averett returns to action on March 18, when it travels to Rocky Mount, North Carolina to face N.C. Wesleyan College at 12 p.m.
