DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University women's tennis fell 6-3 in its non-conference match with Southern Virginia University on Tuesday afternoon at the Averett Tennis Courts.
Averett (5-5) took one of three doubles matches against Southern Virginia (8-1) as the No. 1 doubles tandem of senior Hannah Mattson and junior Heidi Sarkkinen defeated the Knights' Rachel Christensen and Audrey McBride, 8-1.
Sarkkinen also won her singles match at the No. 1 spot, beating Elizabeth Fuchs 6-0, 6-0. The Cougars' other point came at No. 3 singles as freshman Eleanor Crane beat Christensen 6-4, 6-2. Mattson went three sets with McBride at No. 2 singles before McBride pulled it out 2-6, 6-2, 11-9.
Averett's tennis match at Greensboro College scheduled for Wednesday was postponed. Averett's next scheduled match is Saturday at conference foe Salem College at 12 p.m.
