Softball gets dominating sweep against Methodist

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Averett University softball team snagged two victories over Methodist University in conference action on Friday afternoon. The Cougars claimed the first win 12-0 in five innings and defeated the Monarchs 10-2 in Game 2 in just five innings as well.

Averett (9-17, 5-5 USA South) who was the home team in today's doubleheader due to weather in Virginia, got off 12 hits to help the squad sail to a quick win in the first matchup. The Cougars started off strong with a 7-0 lead by the end of the first frame. Junior Andrea Grant doubled to left field scoring two of the seven runs. Sophomore Casey Cook also singled through the left side to add two to the Cougars total. In the third inning Averett added its 10th run due to freshman Ashley Carbajal's single up the middle scoring sophomore Kaitlyn Aherron. The Cougars scored two more runs in the fourth inning before ending the game in the fifth.

Freshman Makenzie Collins led the way with three hits, Carbajal and junior Essence Pulliam followed with two hits apiece. Aherron, Cook, and Grant each totaled a combined six RBI's.
