DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University women's lacrosse team won their third consecutive game on Sunday as the Cougars topped Huntingdon College, 14-2.

Through the first seven minutes of play, Averett (8-5, 3-4 USA South) grabbed a 3-0 lead with goals coming from senior
Alixis Roccia and freshmen
Elizabeth Peasley and
Haley Boardway. Ten minutes later, Vanessa Maldonado from Huntingdon (1-11, 1-7 USA South) scored to bring the Hawks within two. At this point, Huntingdon took a timeout with Averett up 3-1 with 13:26 left in the half.

Out of the timeout, Roccia found the back of the net three times before Peasley and sophomore
Abby Taylor each scored once to give the Cougars an 8-1 lead at halftime.

With 25:22 remaining in the game, Boardway notched her second goal of the afternoon to grant Averett an 11-1 lead. From this point on, the Cougars controlled the pace of play with the advantage of a running clock the rest of the way. Averett went on to add three goals to their total to run away for the 14-2 victory.

Roccia finished with five goals and an assist as Peasley had three goals and an assist of her own. Freshman
Caroline Earle scored her first collegiate goal of her career in the 45
th minute of play.

Averett heads to Meredith College on Wednesday, March 28, for a conference matchup. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
