The Averett University softball team opens the double-elimination portion of the USA South Conference Tournament by playing West Division No. 2 seed Piedmont College at 10 a.m. Friday in LaGrange, Georgia, at the Shuford Softball Complex.

The No. 3 seed in the East Division, Averett (18-20) had a doubleheader sweep of N.C. Wesleyan College in the USA South Conference Tournament's best-of-three first round last Friday. Since then, the Cougars also swept Greensboro College in a non-conference doubleheader. Piedmont (22-15) took two of three from Huntingdon College to win its first round series last weekend.
