LYNCHBURG, Va. — The inaugural Averett University men's lacrosse season ended with the Cougars' 15-3 road loss at Randolph College on Monday night.
Freshman 
Keshawn Downing netted a pair of second-half goals for Averett (0-11). Downing put the Cougars on the scoreboard at the 9:15 mark of the third quarter with a man-up goal to cut Randolph's lead to 9-1. Downing added a second goal in the final seconds of the third quarter to make it 15-3. Freshman 
Joonas Mattila scored Averett's other goal minutes earlier.
Randolph (1-14) opened with a 4-0 lead after one quarter and took an 8-0 lead into halftime. The WildCats held a 15-3 advantage entering the final quarter in which neither team scored.

Will Merritt led the Cougars with four ground balls and Mattila had a team-best three caused turnovers.
