MISENHEIMER, N.C. — The Averett University women's lacrosse team fell 19-3 at Pfeiffer University on Saturday afternoon.
Â
Pfeiffer (11-1) got out to an early lead in the first half when Hailey Metzger scored the eighth goal. Averett (9-7) would answer back when freshman
Elizabeth Peasley scored her goal 63rd goal of the season from an assist by freshman
Xasia Lewis. With that goal by Peasley she has now set the new program record for single-season goal's passing Vanessa Jordan's mark of 62 in 2006 which she tied in the previous game.
Â
Although the Cougars began to make a comeback Pfeiffer would put up six more points to extend its lead by 13. Senior
Alixis Roccia would score her first goal at the 00:30 mark to bring the Cougar total to two goals before going into halftime to give the score of 14-2.
Â
In the second half the Cougars defense held Pfeiffer to only five goals. Freshman
Rachel Hale would score the final goal for Averett at the 23:27 mark. Unfortunately, the Cougars could not keep the momentum going, as Pfeiffer would go on to win, 19-3.
Â
Roccia, Hale, and Peasley each scored the three goals for the Cougars. Lewis finished with one assist.
Â
Averett returns to action on Sunday, April 8, when the Cougars travel to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to face Salem College in its last regular season conference game at 3 p.m.Â
