GREENSBORO, N.C.—The Averett University women's tennis team claimed a 7-2 conference victory against Greensboro College in its last match of the regular season on Sunday morning.
Averett (8-9, 4-4 USA South) got off to an early start with three wins in doubles play. Junior Heidi Sarkkinen and senior Hannah Mattson won their match 8-0 at the No. 1 spot. Freshmen Eleanor Crane and partner Carolyne Dunn came out on top with an 8-1 victory. The Cougars collected its final win from freshman Tyler Goad and junior Ashley Thornton.
Later on, Sarkkinen, Crane, Dunn, and Goad also clinched their singles matches.
The Cougars will travel to LaGrange, Georgia to play in the quarterfinals of the USA South Tournament against Piedmont College on April 13, at 10 a.m. Averett won the tiebreaker by a roll of the dice to break a three-way tie for the No.4 seed.
