ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Averett University volleyball took down N.C. Wesleyan College 3-1 for its first conference victory of the season on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars won 25-21, 25-19, 23-25, 25-22.
Averett (5-6, 1-1 USA South) strung together several scoring runs over the first two sets to go up N.C. Wesleyan (4-8, 0-2 USA South). Yet, the Bishops used a strong start in the third frame to help them force a fourth set. The Cougars pulled away in the final set to clinch the win.
Senior
Jordan Pitzer led Averett with 14 kills and 15 digs and sophomore
McKenzie Miller had a double-double as well with 39 assists and 15 digs. Senior
Emily Stanley also had 15 digs for the Cougars, who got eight kills from sophomore
Myka Patterson, 13 digs and six kills from sophomore
Brooke Aaron and seven kills from junior
Abby Taylor.
Averett was scheduled to play Methodist University as well as part of the conference tri-match, but that matchup was postponed until Oct. 23 because Methodist is still closed following the effects of Hurricane Florence.
The Cougars travel to conference foe Salem College on Tuesday.
