FOLLOW LIVE: Wrestling opens up Virginia Duals on Friday against Kutztown at 9 a.m.

Match 1: Averett University (5-5) vs. Kutztown University (2-1)

  • The Series: This is the second consecutive season that Averett will compete in the Virginia Duals. The Cougars wrestle in the American College Division and will wrestle No. 1 seeded Kutztown to kick off the bracket-style tournament. 
  • Averett at a Glance: Averett heads into this weekend as winners of two of their last three duals in addition to a third place finish as a team at the Jim Crytzer Invitational. The Cougars will benefit from the quality of wrestlers that they will see this weekend as they head deeper into the season and into postseason play. 
  • Kutztown at a Glance: The Bears have won their last two dual competitions against Seton Hill University and LIU Post University before competing in the Franklin & Marshall Open in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, last weekend. 
  • Apprentice School (6-2) at a Glance: The Builders, alike Averett, competed in the Washington & Lee Duals and defeated McDaniel College and Southern Virginia University before falling to Greensboro College. After that, Apprentice wrestled in the Waynesburg Invitational this past Saturday. 
  • Alderson Broaddus (3-0) at a Glance: The Battlers come into the Virginia Duals undefeated in dual action as Alderson Broaddus has collected wins over Southern Virginia, West Virginia Tech University and Garrett College. 
  • LIU Post (2-6) at a Glance: The Pioneers come into this weekend on a three match skid in dual action after falling to Clarion University, 39-7. 
  • Liberty at a Glance: Liberty last competed in the Citrus Classic in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, right before the New Year. Since then, they have been preparing for this weekend's Virginia Duals. 
  • Greensboro (1-8) at a Glance: The Pride last competed in the NWCA National Duals in Louisville, Kentucky, falling to Roger Williams University and the University of Wisconsin Whitewater. 
  • Ferrum (6-1) at a Glance: The Panthers ride into the Virginia Duals winners of their last six duals in addition to placing second as a team at the Citrus Invitational and first at the Jim Cryzter Invitational.
