DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University wrestling team paced by four early pins cruised to a 39-16 win over Bluefield College Thursday evening at the Grant Center in dual action.
The Cougars got off to an early 6-0 start at the 197 pounds when freshman
Chris Mohr won by forfeit. Bluefield (4-18) evened the match at 6-6 at 285 pounds when Matthew Bourne pinned sophomore
John Reid.
However, Averett (6-8) increased their lead back to 12-6 at 125 pounds as sophomore
Sam Braswell won via forfeit making way for a Cougar 33-0 run to ice the dual.
Sophomore
Korpesh Gootee picked up the first of four straight Averett wins by pin over DeAndre Jackson in 1:21 at 133 pounds, while sophomore
Brandon Woody pinned Isaac Wright in 1:53 at 141 pounds.
In the 149-pound weight class, sophomore
Caleb Harmon picked up a pin over Gerron Poston in 45 seconds, while fellow sophomore
Josh Linkous closed out the Cougars run with a 1:15 pin over Gustavo Gomez at 157 pounds.
Freshman
Jared Lough continued his dominate freshman campaign winning by decision 6-0 over Noah Reynolds at 165 pounds, while freshmen
Craig Lewis and
Logan Howell both lost by fall to close out the event.
