DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University women's soccer team dropped a highly contested 1-0 decision to Meredith College on Friday in USA South Conference action.
Averett (0-14, 0-4 USA South) kept Meredith off the scoreboard in the first half, fending off eight shots as sophomore goalkeeper
Morgann Dills posted four saves in the opening frame.
Meredith (2-11, 1-3 USA South) broke the scoreless drought in the 73rd minute when Hunter Straub collected a deflection off passes from Madison Gladwell and Hannah Elvington for the game-winning score.
The Cougars return to action on Tuesday when they host Pfeiffer University on Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium with action scheduled for 6 p.m.
