— A pair of Averett University men's soccer standouts earned weekly honors from the USA South Conference on Monday following the team's two wins in conference play last week. Junior
Colton Dutchess was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week while sophomore
Erik Blick was named Player of the Week.
Dutchess, a goalkeeper from Sanford, North Carolina, posted a 2-0 record as Averett earned shutout wins over William Peace University on Oct. 8 and Methodist University on Oct. 12. He combined for 10 saves between the two games, posting seven saves and earning the shutout in a 1-0 victory over William Peace and recording three saves in the 1-0 win over Methodist.
Blick, a native of Gothenberg, Sweden, tallied two goals on the week, one in each win against William Peace and Methodist. These both ended up being the game-winning goals for Averett. He scored in the ninth minute against the Pacers and the 31st minute against the Monarchs.
